Can I Live Like a Caveman? Paleo: Week One

I’ve always really struggled with losing weight and gaining weight quickly when I’m not actively watching what I’m doing; for example, as of today I’ve been working out consistently 4-6 times a week for the last 6 weeks and have lost a grand total of 2.6 pounds (according to my Fitbit). I don’t know about you, but I expected to see some serious results after that much effort and time.

So the other day I was catching up on my favorite Health/ Well being/ Diet podcast, Diet Starts Tomorrow, and the guest was saying that there are three different body types — Ectomorph, Endomorph, and Mesomorph — and that each one requires a different work out plan and diet than the other. (When I say diet in this context I’m referring to a way of eating rather than a strict regimen of x amount of foods per meal x amount of times per day.) But these body types sent me into a research frenzy where I was watching endless YouTube videos and reading articles on each body type and how to best lose weight for my specific body type.

Which is where Paleo comes in to play. After ~extensive~ research I am both an Endomorph and a Mesomorph, but more so an Endomorph. For this body type the best diet is Paleo, because our bodies don’t process carbohydrates well. So completely cutting out grains, dairy, and processed junk is the best for us. For me the only time I was getting grains in was with junk foods and crackers, so cutting them out completely wasn’t all that difficult (except for Day Three when I was craving pizza crust, but I drank water and just went to bed).

The one tricky thing for the first week was figuring out what I was going to drink. But I stuck to water & tea all week, and cut out the three beers a week I was having. After much research a lot of what I found said that if you don’t cut out alcohol completely the first month then it’s hard to see the effects of the diet change. This is such a new thing for me that I wanted to share my first month of Paleo for anyone out there who is struggling to find out if they can do it themselves. I truly don’t think I would have made it the first week without Paleo Buddy. It’s an app where you can literally search any and all types of food and it’ll pop up and say This is Paleo or This is NOT Paleo.

So without further ado, below is week one of my Paleo Journey.
